FORD INCREASING PRODUCTION OF ALL-NEW LINCOLN NAVIGATOR, FORD EXPEDITION TO MEET GREATER-THAN-ANTICIPATED CUSTOMER DEMAND
   
Ford is increasing production of two entirely new SUVs – the Lincoln Navigator and Ford Expedition – to meet surging customer demand. A new $25 million investment brings Ford’s total investment at Kentucky Truck Plant to $925 million and allows the company to increase manufacturing line speed; company has boosted production targets for full-size SUVs approximately 25 percent since fall. This additional investment and advanced manufacturing upgrades all help the company improve its operational fitness. Upgrades include 400 new robots, enhanced data analytics to help the plant operate more efficiently and a new 3D printer that enables workers to make parts and tools more quickly and cheaper.  Read More

FORD ISSUES SAFETY RECALL FOR 2015-17 F-150 AND 2017 SUPER DUTY VEHICLES TO ADD WATER SHIELD FOR SIDE DOOR LATCHES
   
Ford Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for approximately 1.3 million 2015-17 F-150 and 2017 Super Duty vehicles in North America to add a water shield to side door latches.
In affected vehicles, a frozen door latch or a bent or kinked actuation cable may result in a door that will not open or will not close condition. Should a customer be able to open and close the door with these conditions, the door may appear closed, but the latch may not fully engage the door striker with the potential that the door could open while driving, increasing the risk of injury.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue.
Dealers will install water shields over the door latches and inspect and repair the door latch actuation cables if needed at no cost to the customer.
Affected vehicles include:
2015-17 F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Assembly Plant, March 12, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2016
2015-17 F-150 vehicles built at Kansas City Assembly Plant, Aug. 11, 2014 to Dec. 30, 2016

Data on electric vehicle charging habits finds that despite continuing low gas prices, Ford employees are choosing to purchase or lease electric vehicles if workplace charging is widely available. These results are prompting Ford to triple the number of U.S. workplace charging stations to 600 in the next two years; the network will double within a year. More than six in 10 employees say Ford’s workplace charging, which currently includes 200 stations at 50 facilities, influenced their decision to purchase or lease an electric vehicle.  Read More

In the data-driven, computer-monitored world of vehicle testing, sometimes there is no replacing the human touch. Ford engineers Jonathan Gesek and Mike Del Zio are proof that both the objective and subjective remain integral parts of car development.

After driving a high-speed lap at the test track in a prototype Mustang, Del Zio, a vehicle dynamics engineer – the objective one – reported that despite wind tunnel numbers that would indicate otherwise, the car wasn’t responding around corners to his satisfaction. Production of new Ford EcoSport SUV begins in Craiova, Romania, meeting growing customer demand for small SUVs and bringing new jobs to Europe.
